Write 31: March 22nd

Well, I made it – I finished yesterday’s long run, and it wasn’t so bad after all. Though I must admit we didn’t do the full ten miles; the route was crazy hilly, much more so than we’d thought, so we stopped at about 9.25. We were exhausted! It was also the first warm day this year, so that made it a little harder too. Our route took us through some of the nicest parts of Atlanta, and it was a sunny, gorgeous day – it made such a big difference in comparison with last week’s dreary, drizzly gray day through a more industrial/depressed area. It was fun being out on the sidewalks with everyone walking their dogs, working in their yards, and going to brunch. We tried a couple of different energy fuels this time, some Clif Bloks and gummy cola chews. I really think it helped.

Those hills were killer though! My legs were so banged up and achy that I wasn’t able to take a nap in the afternoon. Pain reliever was a must, and I really dislike taking medicine. We had a really good lunch though: green goddess salad with crab, baked oysters, lobster macaroni and cheese, and maple bread pudding. SO. GOOD.

We randomly went to hear a Steely Dan cover band last night. They were awesome! We had a couple of beers and shared a sandwich. And maybe a shot of tequila 🙂 When we got home, our neighbor came over to bring us some roasted pork he made – how lucky are we? I really want to get back to eating vegetarian all the time, but it’s hard to say no to this stuff.

Accountability (I am not looking forward to adding all this up at the end of the month!)

  • Food: PB&J for breakfast; energy chews and juice during the run; salad with seafood and mac and cheese for lunch (plus bread pudding); Cuban sandwich and kale salad for dinner; Booze: glass of wine, two beers, shot of tequila, one cocktail when we got home (that is a LOT of drinking!)
  • Workout: 9.25 mile run with LOTS of hills
  • Spending: Not a good day. $75 at lunch; $60 at the concert/dinner

  1. Yeees I knew you would dominate it. I love Clif Shot Bloks- they taste like gummy bears 🙂 I eat half at a time though because they’re huge and I feel like I will choke to death while running and trying to eat them. I don’t have a lot of coordination. 🙂

  2. Well done on your long run! I did a “long” run today… it was supposed to be 12k (approx 7.5 miles), but I only did about 9k (approx 5.5 miles)… so, way to go on actually doing your distance! I have a ways to go before I’m ready for my half. 🙂 And I’ve never tried either of those energy foods… but for some reason it won’t let me see the cola chews… keeps taking me to the canadian version of the website… urg!

  3. You did awesome! 9k is a long run in my book 🙂 This was my first time trying those energy chews, and I really think they helped. I am curious to try some of the gels. Weird about the website issue – but if you find those cola chews, you should try them. They’re totally like gummy colas!
